Tracklist November 22. https://listen.20buckspin.com/album/the-palms-of-sorrowed-kings Quote: 1.L'autrier m'en aloie 02:38 For the third time in a decade, a new dawn rises over the castle ruins. Obsequiae once more lower the gates and emerge from the keep, to regale the townsfolk with tales of another age via heroic hymns of majesty and high adventure on 'The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings'. The most immersive and hyper-focused album from Obsequiae to date, 'The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings' features a heightened sense of rhythmic definition, greater care in the depth of layers and a shimmering clarity that elevates the uniquely realized character of a band unlike any other. Sweeping and vast, the otherworldly scope of the guitars, the anachronistic harp interludes, the percussive precision and the range of ancient melodic beauty open portals to the immemorial. An album singularly concerned with creating a captivating world to become willfully lost in, 'The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings' sets itself on a path that few now trod but a realm that Obsequiae tower over like the noblest kings. releases November 22, 2019

I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album and compare it to Aria Of Vernal Tombs, which I thought was a masterpiece. If it's as good as Arial, I will be pleased. I love the sound of these new songs. I suppose the first two albums were of such excellent quality that the band can tread familiar waters and still give me that sense of medieval history-inspired awe and power that they always have. That said, I definitely agree that a more seamless blend of the harp into their metal songs would be really interesting. It works so well for the interludes and introductions that I can only imagine how it could sound as a more integral part of the music. Anyway, can't bloody wait for this album. Just a couple of weeks now and we can finally immerse ourselves into it. https://bandcamp.com/joecriv http://www.last.fm/user/Argaalofthemyst |

Tanner Anderson proving once again he is in a rare category among metal musicians. I wasn't aware Andrew Della Cagna had left the band, which is a shame. |

All the songs have basically the same mood/structure/pacing IMO, which leaves it feeling a bit stale by the time the album ends. I really want to like this band more because I appreciate how unique their approach is, but something about the way they go about it rubs me the wrong way. _________________Korpgud wrote: Imagine Texas Chainsaw Massacre but without any suspense, only constant chainsawing. |

Easy top 10 of the year for sure. Embarrassed to ask this, because I have been following these guys for 10 years since the first demo cassette, anyone know the proper pronunciation of this band's name? I've been saying "ob-suh-kway" but that doesn't sit right with me because of the I before the A. Dark Sacrament Cold Blank Stare Coagulated Blood Obliteration |
